Welcome canoeists and kayakers! Our goal is that everyone who comes to the Captains Cove Motel/Hotel to have an enjoyable experience.
Reservation and Cancellation Policy
Captains Cove Motel/Hotel will accept reservations for canoe and kayak rentals for day and multi-day trips. We float rain or shine. Our policy is to hold reservations using your credit card. We will hold your number and reservation until you arrive . You can pay in full with your credit card or cash.
For day trips: No fee will be assessed if cancellations occur more than 7 days before the reservation date. If less than 7 days, a $20.00 per canoe or kayak fee will will be charged to your credit card.
For multi day trips: No fee will be assessed if cancellations occur more than 7 days before the reservation date. If less than 7 days, then full rental charges for the first day only of the multi day trip per canoe or kayak will be charged to your credit card.
Reservations made and not canceled the day before your scheduled rental and NO SHOWS will be charged the full rental price of there reservation.
We will not charge for cancellations if the river is closed or on the day of your reservation there is severe weather with lightning and high winds.
Cancellations must be made by phone or in person.
General Policies
- If canoe or kayak plans need to be canceled or numbers reduced or increased, please call us as soon as your plans change so that we might be able to rerent and not charge you for canoes or kayaks we are holding for you.
- There will be a $20.00 fee per canoe or kayak charged to you after the 7 day advance notice deadline if the planned activity is canceled for any reason (with the exception of river being flooded or severe weather with lightning on day of rental). At the Captains Cove not at your house.
- Rain is not a reason to refund your trip. Once your trip has begun, there are no refunds or credits for your trip ending sooner than planned.
- Reservations are taken with balance due on Visa, master card , Discover or cash.
- We are not responsible for lost or stolen items. We are not responsible for accidents.
- Each customer will be required to sign an insurance waiver at time of arrival for all services. An adult must sign for minors.
- NO GLASS CONTAINERS ON THE RIVER. This is a Wisconsin DNR regulation.
- Please do not litter. Take a garbage bag with you for your trash.
- We do expect you to have rain gear and be prepared if rain is in the forecast.
10. NO Fireworks are allowed on the river at any time.
11 There will be a charge of $100.00 for retrievals of canoes/kayaks and/or other equipment if they are left between established access points or you go past the take out point.
12. When making reservations please be sure and tell us if you need smaller life jackets for small children.
13. Please remember that while you are on the river to have a great time.

Wisconsin River at Muscoda, WI
A USGS reading at Muscoda of 23,000cf/s and above puts water way over the pick up and put in points and I will not let anyone out at all.
A USGS reading at Muscoda of 20,000 cf/s to 23,000 cf/s is only for the experienced canoe or kayaker, and there are no sand bars to camp on or stop at and pick up points and take out points start to go underwater.
At USGS readings of 15,000 to 20,000 cf/s at Muscoda, canoeing and kayaking is allowed but there a very few places to stop and less places to camp at.
A USGS reading at Muscoda of 10,000 cf/s to 15,000 cf/s makes finding places to camp along the river very hard because sand bars start to become very infrequent, which means take what you find because it might be a long time in between places to camp.
A USGS reading of 10,000 cf/s or below there are abundant sandbars to chose from to stop at or camp on.
